The Papers of William Hand consist of materials dating from 1877 to 1880, with the bulk of the material from 1877 to 1879. The materials encompass Hand's dealings concerning the continuing construction of the Manhattan Beach Hotel, which opened its doors in July 1877. This collection contains letters, memos, proposals, contracts, insurance policies, invoices and receipts. The materials are either handwritten, such as letters and memos, or in typescripts, such as receipts and contracts. The more brittle documents are encapsulated to enable better preservation.
